With more than a dozen world championship titles already to her name, Colombian BMX rider Mariana Pajón is making history with her effortless style on two wheels.
Mariana started racing BMX at the age of four and became a world champion by the age of nine. BMX was introduced to the Olympics for the first time in 2008 and, as a potential 2012 athlete, Mariana was invited on the 2008 Beijing Olympic Youth Camp in preparation for the next Games. In 2007 and 2008 Mariana won the Colombian Junior Sports Woman of the Year award – and was also named Athlete of the Year 2011.
After recovering from a crash-related injury in 2012, Mariana realised her ambition of competing at the Summer Olympics later that year, returning home victorious. Mariana’s trail of success has continued, with the Queen of BMX proving herself a role model for the next generation after picking up Pan American, South American and North American champion titles, the coveted gold medal at the BMX World Championship time trials event, as well as the overall UCI championship title.
Unstoppable Mariana gives it her all to stay at the top of her sport.
